The 2026 FIFA World Cup draw, which is an event that the global football community is looking forward to with great anticipation, has been made public. Friday saw the ceremony taking place in Washington with the presence of US President Donald Trump, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, and Mexican President Claudia Schiffer. Just before the draw, FIFA granted its first Peace Prize to US President Donald Trump. Next time, a staggering 48 teams will fight for the World Cup. Up to the previous World Cup, not more than 32 teams were allowed to play. The teams were sorted into 12 groups. Current champion Argentina is placed in Group-J. Brazil finds its place in Group-C, Spain in Group-H, Germany in Group-E, and France in Group-I. The group stage will consist of 72 matches in total. There will be 32 knockout matches. This time however, the number of matches will exceed the previous FIFA World Cup by 40. The event that is to run from June 11 to July 9, 2026, will be a joint venture by the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The US will host all matches from the quarterfinals on. Six more spots are up for grabs in this World Cup. For that, 22 nations including 12th-ranked Italy will fight it out.
